I’ve been doing a lot these days with various games at the Sycarion site. Nothing really special. Some stuff with the Action! System, a funky hex board for a board game, etc.

Still doing the football thing, now I have to figure out how a player changes year to year. I can generate 1000 seasons of stats and put them in a database. But it assumes that no one gets injured, no one ages, and that no one dies. (To this end, I’m using some players to come up with a variance from year to year to reflect small changes. After nine years, most rushers begin to always decline. After 12 years, most QBs begin to decline. Defensive Lineman decline after six, Offensive Linemen decline after ten. No one plays more than 16 seasons, except for hand-picked exceptions.)

Anyway, I look forward to joining a board game group in January. I hope to play good games like Settlers of Catan, but also show a few of my own and a few games that no one I know plays. For example, no one I know plays Bertzel Chess. There’s four different sets of pieces to choose from and you can choose which of the two you want to be. I’d also like to play a bit of Dice Poker (which I invented, though it may not be an original idea.).

One of the appeals of this type of group is that some people will play collectible card games, but will not be the uberphreaks with the three move to finish killer deck. Most clubs have a common set of cards and a method for drawing random cards from the pool.

It will be fun.

The art/science of games in dog latin. In Latin, adjectives must agree with the declension and gender of the noun it modifies. Don’t tell anyone, but that makes ars technica wrong. It should be ars technices. (But I like ars technica, so I won’t say anything if you don’t.)
