Pin,

Yes, I'm still around. You're always welcome to visit.

Accountability is perhaps only one aspect of Original Sin. You are saying here that children do sin it seems even though they are not accountable. So in that sense, you are expressing a form of Original Sin. Really, every church or denomination has a form of this doctrine even though they may not like to admit it.

Hey Bobber,

Glad to see you around. Look forward to another trip to St. Louis.

Not so much original sin, more of the inevitable consequences resulting from the presence of sin in the world.

I still believe (from a Jewish line of thought) that the sins of the children are the responsibility of the parent until the child reaches the age of accountability. They set it at 12 years and 1 day, but I do not think it is numeric.

"No one was created to be sinful. As a result of the fall, sin is a part of our lives and even a part of our nature."

These are good statements (in my opinion) but do they agree with your former denomination? It appears that you are subscribing to a form of Original Sin. That doctrine which attempts to answer the question of: What were the results of the fall? With my old church (a mainstream C of C), I could never get a clear answer or any satisfaction that anyone had a clear idea of an answer. They could only say we didn't believe in Original Sin.

But when it comes to worship, this understanding is critical. You can relate it to finding a way to treat a disease. If you don't make a correct diagnoses, how can you correctly treat the disease?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, they are great and I benefited from reading them here.

Man, you really think a lot!

All those years we lived together were you doing all this thinking while I was rambling on with "Fire hot...flower smell pretty...Oooh, boobies!"

I love that you seek that deep relationship with God after all the crap that you've seen. I have no doubt that you will find the answers, and the peace you desire.

I'm not saying that as some kind of salve...

I absolutely believe you're living out Mark 12:30 like a bandit. Even when your love is angry, tired, and frustrated, it's still your love for God. And, you're giving it to Him with both barrels.

That's not a love that God will deny...

Miss you, Dude. Much love!

Oh, a quick aside...Have you guys watched Juno yet? I know you're not much of a movie guy, but it's a darn funny movie.

One of the deleted scenes on the DVD extras cracks me up. Juno is talking to her neighbor, a fairly old lady. Old lady makes a comment about sunsets being Jesus' paintbox. Juno replies, "Wow! Jesus really likes orange..."

This made me think of you for some reason...

Anyway, peace out, G!

God made me to ask ‘why’. I’m always going to want to know ‘why’. It is a good thing to ask ‘why’. The idea He gave me was, “Be who I created you to be.”

Great insight. Have you read my BIL's story on my blog. Completely different context, but he talks about how when you are in God's will for you, you'll be happy. If you're not, you won't. I doubt it's that simple, but there's certainly wisdom in that.

Put another way - God created one and only Pinakidion. If you decide not to be Pinakidion, there is no one else to do it.

Funny, the first I learned from my Baptist BIL, the second I heard at the men's retreat at my Father's Methodist church.

Sorry that I'm not very clear, I agree with you. I do not want negative peace and will not settle for negative peace. I will fight rather than settle for negative peace. The only exception is a fight that is not mine (i.e. personal conflict where I am not invited to be a part of it.)

I feel like when faced with HKL, negative peace (a preference for order) was favored over the presence of justice. (2 Co 7:10-12) I feel like this is still the case.

Well, I'm talking more about what it does to me as an individual. I can't feel okay about the "let's just prevent any more fighting". Maybe I would even rather fight, but maybe not.

Never thought of it that way, but I agree. Negative peace, especially in King's context, was a desire for order above else. It's kind of like "okay, now that there's no fighting, let's just prevent anymore fighting." Doing that makes you vigilant to any complaint or potential issue. It can cause overcorrective measure.

I haven't seen any over-corrective measures, have you? :)

Don't you think that negative peace by definition creates tension, i.e., susceptibility to "trigger"? Waiting for the other shoe to fall, while being glad I haven't been kicked lately, has worn me out.
