Turns out that my vigilance against spam emliminated the ability to post any comment at all.

HACKED! 5-01-05 My thanks to fd for hacking access to the server this website is hosted on. I hope the folks at 1and1.com have made steps to correct this: I suspect that it was someone using Google to send a php vulnerability.
