A few thoughts while not sleeping

I’ve had trouble sleeping for years. I have sleep apnea, but I also have times when the brain just won’t shut down and let me rest. So, in order to occupy my time and get a little more sleepy, here’s a few things that I’d normally let slide, but feel compelled to mention because the wheels are turning…

Education Ministry
I look forward to meeting a minister with a SBC congregation around here. I know, the Southern Bapitst Convention here. Who’d have thunk it? Anywho, trying to get together this week.

Another Demagogue
I used to support this guy until a friend of our family was fired by him. Our family friend made the mistake of telling Mr. Robertson that he shouldn’t run for President.

Apparently, our biggest threat is liberal judges. It is more important “than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings”. It is more important than World War II, Iraq, and everything else.

It just goes to show that there’s more than one religious leader that lives in his own ozone.

David and His Marketing Agent

A great story can be read here that deals with modern attitudes toward conflict. I added a link to this magazine, by the way. I have really enjoyed their thought provoking articles, even if I do not buy into all of their reformed theology. I added a link on the right sidebar.

Secret Meetings
First there’s a first-come, first-serve meeting in Baltimore, now there’s some symposium in LA about the definition of “believing children”. Who pays for some of these people to fly around the country?

Stay home and meet some people within your own congregation. Work with the local congregation and maybe even meet some folks in other churches in your town. The world will do fine without your personal presence: there’s very few people in the entire world that you cannot just simply call. GET OVER YOURSELF. Unless you make a living as a travelling minister (not a world missions evangelist), do the JOB YOU WERE HIRED TO DO, minister to a local congregation.

I had to follow this piece of advice myself last year. No more trips to conferences just to get an ulcer, no trip to Greece this year, no flying to churches to have words with the ministers that say things like “I don’t want anything to do with Triangle (church)” (MF) or “It was a vocal minority that got out of control” (SL) or “I don’t have time for bloggers”(SS).

Cold Feet Is Not News
Glad to know that all the news networks and NPR believe that a woman getting cold feet is national news. I suppose that steriods in sports, British elections (Blair is getting hammered), more car bombs in Iraq, and other things are just not important enough to show on TV every five minutes.

Hello? Sudan? The SUDAN? You know, civil war there, death squads, endless slaughter.
Hello? North Korea? You know, the country we ignore when it comes to nukes.
Hello? Microsoft and the EU? Windows XP Version N – not sold in this country.
Hello? The religious right is trying to take over politics and mix it with right-wing whacked out religion. Despite how fascinating Rush can be, Rush is not Right.
Hello? Energy policy? Drilling in Alaska not the issue but the lack of refineries?

Thank goodness for news.google.com

Big Announcement Coming Sunday
Some of you know, but I’ll tell everyone Sunday. It’s a big deal for me and it’s a personal thing, not a church thing.

Wife Only Training for One More Week
’nuff said.

Books on Evangelism
Want to read Out of the Saltshaker & into the World: Evangelism As a Way of Life by Rebecca Manley Pippert. It comes highly recommended and it’s not a works-oriented version of Master Plan of Evangelism.

You know that Robert Coleman actually did an interview to say that his work is being twisted by some churches?

Life is Good
Despite not sleeping, life is really good these days. I have an amazing, hard working wife, great friends, and a hope of Heaven one day. Truly wonderful things.
