I wrote about the increasing number of blades on a razor here on Sep 15 2005. Now, the Economist is looking at theMoore’s Law effect on the number of blades in a razor. The write suggests that additional blades follow a hyperbolic curve, not the curve suggested by Moore’s law.

In English, instead of a 14 blade razor in 2100, it will be on shelves within four years.

I am still claiming the TM on the Phlebotomizer - the 40 bladed wonder.

Glad I use an electric myself.

Have you counted the number of blades in your electric razor?

About 30 I think. It has three round heads and 10 blades in each disk.

I read somewhere that the reason the blade number keeps increasing is so that Wal Mart has to keep buying them from the big razor comapnies rather than outsourcing them. When you stop innovating and happen to sell through Walmart, they’ll just outsource to a cheaper supplier once you can’t keep your price down.
