A writing tablet for my thoughts

Turns out that my vigilance against spam emliminated the ability to post any comment at all.
Sorry, not intentional. They should work now.
HACKED! 5-01-05
My thanks to fd for hacking access to the server this website is hosted on. I hope the folks at 1and1.com have made steps to correct this: I suspect that it was someone using Google to send a php vulnerability.

I noticed that last night. Since I use 1and1 too, I imediately did another backup of my site, just in case.
The domain where the image was supposed to come from (it wasn’t visisble when I visited last night) was some Australian aerospace company.
Any word from 1and1 on how it happened?
No word, but all they did was insert an index.html file, no actual damage done. If it was a php exploit, then it’s not that they could damage the site as much as get php to run certain commands, such as creating an index.html file.
I only wish I could upgrade to Wordpress 1.5. I have no good way to make a backup.
You can’t do a back up? Wow. Why can’t you upgrade to 1.5?
In Moveable Type I back up by doing two things. 1 - I export my entries from MT as a text file to my local PC. 2 - I use FTP to copy the contents of my web space to my local PC. Restoring my site would probably not be that easy. I’d have to re-install MT, upload my old template files and then import the entries from that text file and then rebuild the site. There will be other things that would need to be dealt with too like plugins and other customization. Unlike WP, MT creates a static web page for each entry, hence the need to rebuild.
Not easily - 1and1.com won’t let me do it the way I prefer, which is through phpAdmin to dump the database.
There is a plugin that is supposed to allow me to do this, but I cannot get it to work.
I can’t upgrade because I cannot back up the current site. There’s no guarantee that it won’t delete all my posts.
