Unity and Its Pursuit

I read about a document calling for unity out of LA a couple days ago. I wrote back with a list of questions, and it seems there are a few answers posted. There is only one reason for this, everyone’s reacting to Thomas.

But real unity doesn’t come from a creed or code. Churches of Christ have existed for quite a while without them. I’m not anti-creed so much. I think it’s good to say “This is what I believe”. It’s not good to say “this is how we do things.” Like my friend Doug, I ask ‘why?’.

There is a good chance for us to come together. New Orleans needs help. Right now, I’m sure that folks in Houston are willing to help, though they may not know that so many from New Orleans are there. If ever there was a call to unity, I think helping out the folks in New Orleans, both inside and outside our fellowship of churches is it.

Have a meeting or two, sign some documents. All that is well and good. Meantime, let’s do something. I realize that the best many of us can do right now is wait and that is difficult. However, with the rebuilding of a city and thousands of lives, I believe we will all have a chance to help.
