Good News from Afghanistan

I have criticized HOPE Worldwide in the past for two main reasons. One, is the cash that local branches must pay the central office in the form of management fees. (This allows for creative accounting of program expenses). The second reason was that it had become a quagmire of middle management.

I’ve also linked to the good things that they do, and here is another one. DisciplesToday is carrying an advertisement for aid workers in the Kabul Office. These are pretty specific needs that cannot be filled by just anyone. This shows me that my second objection, the middle management quagmire, is improving. In the past, someone would have been assigned by the World Sector Leaders. Here is a real ad for a real need. The local office has pushed for something and word is getting out. This is great.

Real help is being delivered on the ground in Afghanistan. There are a lot of challenges in a place like this and not a lot of charities are doing work there. I hope that they will get the workers they are asking for very soon. I wish that I could go and help myself, but I don’t meet the qualifications very well.

Just passing along a good word for Monday.
